Cold/Inclement Weather Ride Policy

This Weather Policy is to help avoid confusion when the temperatures drop to an uncomfortable level or when the heavens open up and pour precipitation. On those scheduled group ride days where the weather is questionable please refer to the guidelines listed below before heading out to the meeting location. Again, these are general group guidelines and the reader should know that there are rare exceptions to these guidelines.

1. Cold Temperatures: If the weather report indicates temperatures below 45 degrees at the indicated start time, we will delay the start time until the temperature is at least 45 degrees. This will be determined by logging onto www.weather.com. Enter the postal zip code 32503 then click on the "Hourly" link. We will delay in one hour increments, not 30 minutes or 15 minutes.

2. Rain: If it is actually raining, stay home we are not riding as a group. If there is a question as to whether it will be raining at the start time, log onto www.weather.com. Enter the postal zip code 32503 then click on the "Hourly" link to determine the percentage of percipitation. If the chance of rain is greater than 50%, (60% or above) we will not be meeting to ride. However, please check the "Map in Motion" link to determine if the rain is actually headed our way. In this case, it is a judgement call and every effort will be made to send out a mass email an hour before the scheduled start time.

3. Fog and/or Heat: Both of these can be very dangerous for cyclists. However, generally speaking we will still be riding as a group at the indicated start time and location. It is left to each individual cyclist to determine whether he or she is comfortable with the weather conditions.

4. Hail: Make sure you're wearing your helmet...or stay home.

5. Snow: Stay home and enjoy some hot cider. Or, try a pair of those new tire chains for bikes.

6. Hurricane or Tornado: Stay home and keep your head down...unless it's a Cat 3 or above, then my suggestion is to load the bike up and get out of town!

Note: Remember, every effort will be made to send out a mass email and/or post on this Blogulation indicating the change in the start time or location at least an hour before the scheduled start time as needed.
