The age old problem with group riding...speed. It appears that every group I have ever known or been apart of has this problem; the speed of the group. Pace is one of the critical components of riding together. For example, not many of us would be able to hang with Lance on one of his training rides. Nor would we want to ride with someone that has an average speed under 10mph. However, all of us would want to know approximately what the pace is going to be on any particular ride. "Am I hammering with Lance or with my 7 year old?" That's the general purpose of this Speed Chart, to give everyone a general idea of what to expect on any given ride.
SPEED (PACE) CHART
Easy Pace................................................16mph and below
Moderate Pace........................................17 to 20 mph
Fast Pace.................................................21 to 24 mph
Very Fast.................................................25 mph and above
Every one of our announced rides will have a speed classification. This classification will be the general pace, (not the average pace)* on flat roads. A bit slower on the climbs and headwinds and a bit faster on the descents and tailwinds.
*Average pace is the sum total of miles ridden divided by the time it takes to ride those miles. Average pace is much slower than the general pace, (actual speed), because it takes into account slowing for corners, stop signs, traffic lights, etc.
